Bereavement Team ministers to parishioners who are suffering a loss through the death of a loved one. The team ministers through cards, phone calls and visits and also provides resource information to the bereaved in the parish bulletin and local newspaper. The bereavement team co-sponsors a Community Memorial Service as a way to remember loved ones.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to the Homebound visit sick or disabled parishioners to pray with them and to show the community’s concern for them. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion bring communion each week or on First Friday to parishioners who request it. Please call the parish office (419-332-7339) to arrange visits.
Funeral Luncheon Team prepares a meal for a deceased parishioner’s family and friends after the funeral. There are teams of ladies who coordinate and provide this ministry.
Funeral Planning Team offers the family of a deceased parishioner the ministry of consolation. Members of the family are invited to plan the funeral rites in accord with the Order of Christian Funerals and to take an active part in the celebration of the rites. Fr. Krzysztof, Jan Hazen, Lou Ann Kramer or John & Chris McClellan are available to meet with the family and assist them in liturgy planning.
The Giving Tree is Sacred Heart’s form of participation in the Sandusky County Community Christmas project, which provides help for those who request it through United Way First Call for Help (419-334-2720). On the First Sunday of Advent, the Giving Tree is displayed in the narthex of the church. Parishioners are invited to take a tag from the tree, purchase gifts for the persons identified on the tag, and to return them for distribution. Barb Reineck (419-334-3388) serves as the chairperson for this annual collection.
Heartbeat is a confidential crisis pregnancy agency that offers education, counseling and infant care items to area families. 419-334-9079.
Hispanic Ministry is an outreach of the Fremont Catholic churches to the Hispanic community. It includes the 1:00 p.m. Spanish Mass at St. Joseph Church each Sunday and summer sacramental preparation for the children of seasonal farm workers. Hospital Visiting Team visits Memorial Hospital to show the concern of the entire parish community for parishioners who are hospitalized. Each day Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion from one of the Fremont parishes visit Catholic patients at Memorial Hospital. Emergency visits are also made on request. Parishioners who are admitted to the hospital are asked to notify the parish office.
Nursing Home Visiting Team provides a personal connection between residents of Countryside Continuing Care Center, Rutherford House and Sacred Heart. Residents at Countryside gather each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. to watch the pre-recorded Mass for Shut-Ins and to receive the Eucharist. Residents at Rutherford meet every Friday at 10:30 a.m. for a communion service or on the third Friday of each month for Mass. In October and May the sacrament of the anointing of the sick is celebrated at both locations. Lou Ann Kramer coordinates the parish ministry to the sick. Contact the parish office 419-332-7339.
St. Vincent de Paul Society is an international Catholic organization of lay persons that seeks, in a spirit of justice and charity and by person-to-person involvement, to help those who are suffering. Share & Care is a used clothing store located at 202 Lynn St. Area churches share the responsibility for sorting and displaying clothing and small articles at Share & Care, which is open 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and 12:00 noon-3:00 p.m. Thursdays.
