Bereavement Team

Ministers to parishioners who are suffering a loss through the death of a loved one. The team ministers through cards, phone calls and visits and also provides resource information to the bereaved in the parish bulletin and local newspaper. The bereavement team co-sponsors a Community Memorial Service on the last Sunday of April as a time to remember loved ones.

DivorceCare

A weekly seminar and support group for people experiencing divorce and separation. Each 90-minute session of the 13-week DivorceCare series features a video followed by discussion in a support group setting. Fremont Catholics facilitate the sessions; all are welcome.

Communion to the Homebound

Visit sick or disabled parishioners to pray with them and to show the community's concern for them. Eucharistic ministers bring communion each week or on First Friday to parishioners who request it.

Funeral Choir

Supports the bereaved family at a funeral by singing the hymns the family selected to celebrate the life of the deceased loved one.

Funeral Luncheon Team

Prepares a meal in the school hall for a deceased parishioner's family and friends after the funeral.

Funeral Planning Team

Offers the family of a deceased parishioner the ministry of consolation. Members of the family are invited to plan the funeral rites in accord with the Order of Christian Funerals and to take an active part in the celebration of the rites. A parish funeral planner visits the surviving family and assists them in liturgy planning.

Giving Tree

Sacred Heart's form of participation in the Sandusky County Community Christmas project, which provides help for those who request it through United Way First Call for Help (334-2720). On the First Sunday of Advent, the Giving Tree is displayed in the narthex of the church. Parishioners are invited to take a tag from the tree, to purchase gifts for the persons identified on the tag, and to return the wrapped gifts for distribution.

Health Ministries / Parish Nursing

Promotes health and healing as part of the mission and ministry of the Sacred Heart community to our parishioners and the larger community we serve. Currently, parish nurses offer blood pressure screening on the third Sunday of each month and promote health and healing practices through education.

Heartbeat

A confidential crisis pregnancy agency that offers education, counseling and infant care items to families.

Hispanic Ministry

An outreach of the Fremont Catholic churches to the Hispanic community. It includes the 1:00 p.m. Spanish Mass at St. Joseph Church each Sunday and summer sacramental preparation for the children of seasonal farm workers.

Hospital Visiting Team

Visits Memorial Hospital to show the concern of the entire parish community for parishioners who are hospitalized. Each Monday the pastor visits hospitalized parishioners; on Thursdays the pastoral associate visits. Each day Eucharistic ministers from one of the Fremont parishes visit all Catholic patients at Memorial Hospital. Emergency visits are also made on request. Parishioners who are admitted to the hospital are asked to notify the parish office.

Nursing Home Visiting Team

Provides a personal connection between residents of Countryside Continuing Care Center, Rutherford House and Sacred Heart. Residents at Countryside gather each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. to watch the pre-recorded Mass for Shut-Ins and to receive the Eucharist. Mike Koebel is present each Sunday at Countryide. Residents at Rutherford meet every Friday at 10:30 a.m. for a communion service or on the third Monday of each month for Mass. Kay Szymanowski leads the Rutherford House communion services. In October and May the sacrament of the anointing of the sick is celebrated at both locations.

St. Vincent de Paul Society

An international Catholic organization of lay persons that seeks, in a spirit of justice and charity and by person-to-person involvement, to help those who are suffering. The Fremont-Clyde-Green Springs conference is a collaborative effort of the parishes and institutions in this sector of the Fremont deanery.

Share and Care

A used clothing store located at 202 Lynn St. Area churches share the responsibility for sorting and displaying clothing and small articles at Share and Care, which is open 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and 12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m. Thursdays. In May and October Sacred Heart parishioners team up to work on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Commited to caring for persons in physical or emotional need. It also studies the church's social teaching and promotes programs, advocacy and education around peace and justice issues.
